The Biomethane Industrial Partnership presents video on the benefits of biomethane for local communities at EURegionsWeek 2024

Brussels, 9th of October, 2024. Today, the Biomethane Industrial Partnership participated in the session “Smart and Sustainable Growth for Regions” of the European Regions Week 2024, presenting a video on the benefits of biomethane for local communities.

The session centered around the important role of the local dimension to drive the green and digital transition. Discussions explored how targeted funding, skill development, and strategic investments can empower communities to adopt green technologies, while ensuring that citizens remain in their regions.

Ditte Juul Jørgensen, Director-General, European Commission – DG ENER, stated: “The biomethane sector demonstrates how organic wastes are energy sources. Industrial and agricultural waste can be turned into biomethane, a renewable energy source with the same chemical structure as natural gas. This allows for a seamless transition in all industrial applications, particularly in the so-called ‘hard-to-abate’ sectors. It is important to ensure biomethane is sustainably produced. The right criteria and conditions are essential, and the opportunities at the local level are significant.”
