Brussels, 24th of May, 2024. Almost halfway down the road in 2024 and with the second anniversary of REPowerEU, the Biomethane Industrial Partnership is moving full steam ahead.
Task Forces are actively working on the priorities outlined for 2024. Among these is guiding national strategy development and facilitating collaboration, with Task Force 1 at the forefront, creating a collaborative platform for the exchange and adoption of best practices. Enhancing cross-border trade is another critical focus, with Task Force 2 preparing a comprehensive report on greenhouse gas accounting rules, certification schemes and access to end users, and Task Force 6 analysing ways to optimise biomethane trade between the EU and Ukraine.
The valorisation of biogenic CO₂ is also a key priority. Task Force 4.1 has released a study exploring the business case of biogenic CO₂, while Task Force 5.3 has released a preview video on their analysis of improving methanation technologies for valorising biogenic CO₂ (the study will soon be released).
Other key priorities for 2024 include promoting sustainable feedstock use, optimising biomethane grid integration, valorising digestate, promoting e-methane production, and advancing novel technologies.
